Design Festa Vol.64 2026: Tickets, Access & Crowd Plan

Overseas visitors approaching Tokyo Big Sight on a clear autumn day Travel Tips

Design Festa Vol.64 is scheduled for November 14 and 15, 2026, from 10:00 to 18:00 at Tokyo Big Sight’s West and South Halls. Design Festa lists about 6,500 booths on each day. That scale creates a planning problem for a first-time visitor: the full booth list is too large for a focused visit, and the opening queues can be crowded.

The current official price table lists a JPY 800 advance one-day ticket, JPY 1,500 advance two-day ticket, and JPY 1,000 same-day one-day ticket. However, the organizer also says advance sales are still being arranged. Treat the prices as published but do not assume tickets are on sale until a live purchase link appears.

This guide gives overseas travelers a simple decision: choose one day, buy in advance when sales open, shortlist what matters, and use a four-hour route instead of attempting the full booth list.

Quick answer: what should a first-time visitor do?

  1. Choose Saturday, November 14, or Sunday, November 15. Both days currently have the same 10:00-18:00 hours.
  2. Check the official ticket page. As of August 4, advance sales are not open.
  3. If you want to enter through an advance-ticket entrance, buy before the event. Visitors without a ticket are currently directed to the West Hall entrance and its ticket box.
  4. Save both stations: Tokyo Big Sight Station on the Yurikamome is about a 3-minute walk; Kokusai-tenjijo Station on the Rinkai Line is about a 7-minute walk.
  5. Wait for the official Vol.64 booth list and detailed map, then save 10-15 priority booths or categories.
  6. Use the four-hour route below. It gives one focused pass through the West Halls, one through the South Halls, a break, and time to return to a favorite booth.
  7. Carry some small yen notes. The organizer says purchase methods differ by exhibitor and it does not provide currency exchange.
  8. Ask before photographing a specific artwork or person. Live-commerce streaming is prohibited.
Decision Current official position Practical choice
One day or two One-day and two-day advance tickets are listed Choose one day unless the future booth list gives you a clear reason to return
Advance or same-day Advance sales are still being arranged; same-day tickets are listed Save the ticket page now and buy only through a live official link
Opening time The organizer warns that entrances and waiting lines are especially crowded when doors open Join the opening queue only if early access matters to you
Which station Yurikamome: about 3 minutes on foot; Rinkai Line: about 7 minutes Choose by your starting area, not by the walking difference alone
What to see About 6,500 booths are planned per day; the detailed map comes later Make a shortlist instead of attempting every aisle
How to pay Purchase methods differ by booth; no event currency exchange Carry small yen notes plus a second payment method

The event includes original art and goods, live painting, workshops, performances, stages and food. The exact Vol.64 exhibitor list, detailed hall map and timetable are not yet complete. Do not build your visit around a seller or performance from an older edition.

Tickets are non-refundable after purchase. Re-entry is allowed, but the official instruction is to speak to staff at the re-entry point before leaving.

Should you choose Saturday or Sunday?

The published hours and headline scale are the same on both days. The final exhibitor list is the useful tie-breaker because participation and booth placement can vary.

Choose your day in this order:

  1. Priority artist or category: wait for the Vol.64 exhibitor search, then choose the date with your must-see booths.
  2. Fixed Tokyo itinerary: use the day that leaves at least four unhurried hours inside the venue.
  3. No priorities yet: choose either day, but do not buy a non-refundable ticket for both days merely because the event is large.

The four-hour route in this guide is not a promise that four hours covers Design Festa. It is a limit that helps a traveler enjoy selected areas without sacrificing the rest of a Tokyo trip.

Advance ticket or same-day ticket?

Advance ticket

The organizer currently lists advance tickets through its office, gallery, online services and convenience-store channels. The page also says the Vol.64 sales arrangement is still pending. Wait for an active official purchase link and check its language, fee and payment terms before paying.

An advance ticket is the practical choice if you want to use an entrance that requires a ticket already in hand. Current queue guidance says visitors without tickets should use the West Hall entrance and buy at the ticket box.

Same-day ticket

The current table lists a JPY 1,000 one-day ticket available through online or convenience-store channels and at the entrance ticket box. There is no same-day two-day ticket listed.

Same-day purchase adds another task to the busiest part of the visit. It is still a valid Plan B if advance sales do not fit your travel dates, but recheck the Vol.64 entrance notice because the organizer says waiting-line arrangements can change by event.

Do not confuse admission payment with booth payment

Admission gets you into the event. Art, goods, workshops and food are separate purchases. The official visitor FAQ says each exhibitor decides whether an item is sold and how it can be purchased.

Booth payment methods vary. Bring a second payment method and some manageable yen notes. The organizer does not exchange money, although Tokyo Big Sight has ATMs.

How to reach Tokyo Big Sight

The venue asks visitors to use public transportation because surrounding roads and parking can be congested.

Rinkai Line: useful from Shinjuku, Shibuya and Osaki

Take the Rinkai Line to Kokusai-tenjijo Station. Tokyo Big Sight lists the walk at about seven minutes. The Rinkai Line also connects through Osaki with JR Saikyo Line services, but through-service patterns can vary. Check the live route rather than assuming a direct service.

Yurikamome: useful from Shimbashi or Toyosu

Take the Yurikamome to Tokyo Big Sight Station. The venue lists the walk at about three minutes. Its official examples show about 23 minutes from Shimbashi on the Yurikamome and about nine minutes from Toyosu, before your transfer and waiting time.

Which route should you save?

Starting area Usually simplest route to compare first Plan B
Shinjuku or Shibuya JR/Rinkai Line direction via Osaki Metro to Toyosu, then Yurikamome
Tokyo Station JR to Shimbashi, then Yurikamome Bus only if live traffic and timetable suit you
Ginza Metro to Shimbashi, then Yurikamome Metro to Toyosu, then Yurikamome
Odaiba Yurikamome or local waterfront route Rinkai Line from Tokyo Teleport where practical

Use live directions on the day. For rail and IC-card basics, read the Tokyo Trains Guide and Suica or PASMO in 2026?. If your route changes, Does Google Maps Work in Japan? explains the platform and exit details to check.

A four-hour first-visit route

The official detailed Vol.64 map is expected closer to the event. Once it appears, replace the generic hall order below with the entrances and booth numbers on that map.

Before entering: five minutes

  • Open the current waiting-line notice.
  • Confirm which entrance matches your ticket type and first priority area.
  • Screenshot the Vol.64 map and your 10-15 saved booths.
  • Agree on one meeting point if your group separates. The organizer does not make ordinary friend-call announcements.

Hour 1: first priority hall

Go directly to the hall containing your highest-priority booth or category. Avoid repeated stops in the first row. Mark interesting booths for a return pass.

Hour 2: one neighboring zone

Choose one additional zone: regular booths, the low-light area, live painting, workshops or a performance. The official category placement is not strict, so allow some discovery rather than treating the map as a precise genre filter.

Hour 3: break and second hall

Take a short break before moving between the West and South areas. Reassess your list. If the venue already feels overwhelming, remove low-priority booths instead of rushing.

Hour 4: return and exit buffer

Return to no more than three favorite booths, make considered purchases, then leave enough time for the station walk and your next reservation. Re-entry is available if you arrange it with staff before going out.

This route is RJG’s decision framework, not an official Design Festa itinerary. Its purpose is to make the official map usable for a first-time overseas visitor.

Crowd, clothing, bags and photography rules

Opening queues

The organizer warns that entrances and waiting lines are especially busy at opening. Current guidance permits lining up from 5:00, prohibits overnight waiting, queue-cutting and saving a place with luggage, and asks groups to join when everyone is present.

If you do not have a limited item or priority booth that makes opening essential, do not add a pre-dawn wait to your plan. Check the live line notice and prioritize a manageable visit over being first.

Clothing

The venue is indoors, but the organizer warns that crowded areas can feel warm and recommends adjustable layers. Your station walk and part of the queue may be outside in November. Use a light layer you can remove and avoid carrying a bulky coat through narrow booth areas when possible.

Bags

Bring a small day bag and leave suitcases elsewhere. Tokyo Big Sight has locker and baggage services, but availability at a major event may be limited. For alternatives, see Tokyo Luggage Storage 2026.

Photography

Ask the exhibitor before photographing a particular work or person. Do not turn an aisle into your own photo session or performance area. Live-commerce streaming and purchase-for-resale broadcasts are prohibited and can lead to removal.

Plan B for ticket, queue, fatigue and rain problems

Advance tickets are still not on sale

Do not buy from an unverified resale page. Keep the date flexible, save the official ticket page and check again after the organizer publishes the sales links. Same-day admission remains a published option, but its entrance process should be rechecked before travel.

The opening line is longer than you want

Use the official waiting-line instruction and staff direction. If early access is not tied to a must-see booth, move the visit later when that still fits your ticket, transport and same-day plans. The organizer does not publish a quiet-hour promise.

You are tired after one hall

Stop treating the booth count as a challenge. Take a break, keep your top three remaining stops and skip the rest. You can leave and re-enter if you first speak to re-entry staff.

Heavy rain affects the outdoor queue or station walk

The exhibition itself is indoors, but use a compact rain layer and check transport status. Do not block an aisle with a wet full-size umbrella; follow the venue’s current umbrella-storage instruction if one is posted.

You decide not to enter

Purchased tickets are non-refundable. If you have not bought one, switch to an indoor waterfront attraction or return to central Tokyo. For an unplanned meal, use Tokyo Restaurant Plan B rather than choosing the first crowded place near the venue.

  • Shortlist 10-15 booths or categories.
  • Save both Tokyo Big Sight Station and Kokusai-tenjijo Station.

  • Leave large luggage outside the event plan.

On the day:

  • Check the current entrance and waiting-line notice.
  • Use the entrance that matches your ticket status.
  • Ask before photographing a work or person.
  • Take a break before moving to the second hall.
  • Keep enough time for the station and your next booking.
