Before leaving the terminal
Eight checks that prevent a bad last mile
Confirm airport and terminal: NRT is Narita; HND is Haneda.
Save the accommodation name and full address offline.
Identify the exact station exit or bus stop.
Recheck the timetable after baggage claim.
Count transfers and the final walk with luggage.
Confirm the last connection, not only airport departure.
Keep payment flexibility for another route.
Contact the operator for required assistance.
A backup is part of the route
Plan B
Choose it before you travel, not after the last connection disappears.
- Narita bus full or delayed: compare the next official bus with JR or Keisei rail; check a licensed taxi only with the complete per-vehicle cost.
- Haneda rail disrupted: check the other rail operator, current airport-bus routes, or a licensed airport taxi.
- Final connection missed: use an official taxi stand or licensed company, or wait at the airport or nearby accommodation.
- Luggage or mobility makes the route unsafe: reduce transfers and confirm assistance rather than forcing the original plan.
Frequently asked questions
Questions to settle before buying
Is there one airport transfer that works for every Tokyo trip?
No. The useful choice depends on the airport, your final address, transfers, luggage, group size, mobility needs, and arrival time. Compare the complete airport-to-accommodation journey.
Should I choose the lowest airport fare?
Not automatically. Add the cost and effort of the final connection. A slightly higher direct service may be more practical than a lower airport-to-station fare followed by stairs, another ticket, or a taxi.
Do I need to reserve an airport transfer in advance?
It depends on the service and ticket product. Some trains require a limited-express or reserved-seat ticket, some buses use route-specific reservations, and fixed-fare taxis can have advance-reservation rules. Check the operator’s current instructions.
Which options reduce transfers with large luggage?
A bus serving your hotel or nearby terminal and a licensed door-to-door taxi can reduce transfers. Selected rail services may also reach a useful station directly. Confirm baggage limits, station access, and the final walking route.
What should I do after a late-night arrival?
Check the live official timetable after immigration and baggage claim. If public transport no longer connects safely to your accommodation, use an official taxi stand or licensed operator, or wait at the airport or nearby hotel.
Are airport taxi fixed fares all-inclusive?
No. Official fixed-fare schemes are zone-based and generally add expressway tolls. Reservation, late-night, pickup, and eligibility conditions can also apply. Check the official scheme and licensed company before riding.
Can I rely on the times and fares in this guide?
Use them as a verified comparison snapshot dated July 29, 2026, not as a booking quote. Timetables, fares, stops, disruptions, and ticket rules can change, so confirm the final terms with the operator.
