Sapporo Snow Festival 2027: Hotels, Tax & Plan B

The 2027 Sapporo Snow Festival will run for eight days, from Thursday, February 4 to Thursday, February 11, 2027, at Odori, Tsudome and Susukino. The dates and three sites are confirmed. Much of the detailed 2027 program is not: the organizer says venue content will be updated from around mid-December 2026.

That makes August a good time to solve the expensive part of the trip—where to stay—without pretending that every sculpture, shuttle and attraction has already been announced.

What Is Confirmed for the 2027 Festival?

The organizer's July 13 announcement confirms the following:

The official site currently lists Odori illumination until 10:00 p.m. and Tsudome hours of 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Treat later program details, attraction rules and shuttle arrangements as changeable until the organizer publishes the full 2027 guide.

General admission to all three sites is free, according to the official FAQ. Optional activities or services may charge separately.

Which of the Three Sites Should You Prioritize?

Do not treat the festival as one compact park. Odori and Susukino fit together easily in central Sapporo. Tsudome serves a different purpose and needs its own travel time.

Odori is reached from Odori Station on the Namboku, Tozai and Toho subway lines. Susukino is beside Susukino Station on the Namboku Line. Since April 1, 2026, guests in Sapporo have paid both the Hokkaido accommodation tax and the Sapporo City accommodation tax. The charge is calculated per guest, per night, using the accommodation charge per person per night.

Example: two adults staying three nights at an accommodation charge of ¥22,000 per person per night would budget ¥2,400 total: two guests × three nights × ¥400.

The accommodation provider collects the tax. Booking sites and properties may display or collect local taxes differently, so a “paid in full” label may exclude this charge. How Should You Arrive from New Chitose Airport?

For current planning, Sapporo's official tourism site lists the fastest airport train at about 33–37 minutes to Sapporo Station and an airport bus at about 70 minutes to central Sapporo. These are planning references, not guarantees for February 2027. Recheck the operator timetable and disruption information shortly before travel.

Use the train if Sapporo Station is your base or the roads are uncertain. Consider the bus when it stops close to your hotel and you want fewer luggage transfers. Do not schedule Tsudome immediately after landing: it adds a subway journey and an outdoor connection after you reach the city.

The festival FAQ gives Sapporo's average February temperature as −2.3°C and recommends real winter outerwear, layers, a hat, ear protection and gloves. The larger immediate risk for many visitors is the ground.

Use winter footwear with a tread designed for ice, or add a correctly fitted anti-slip grip. The organizer also warns about slippery crossings and the edges of road-heating zones. Keep your hands free when possible, shorten your steps and allow extra time instead of rushing for a signal or train.
