Tokyo Disney Halloween 2026: Costume Dates & Changing Rules

You have the park ticket, the outfit and the photos you want to take. Then one date rule changes the entire plan.

Tokyo Disney Resort's 2026 Halloween event runs from September 16 through October 31, but guests aged 12 and over cannot wear a full character costume throughout that entire period. There is also no changing space inside Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea.

This guide separates the event dates, full-costume dates, outfit rules and changing options so that international visitors can make a plan before arriving at Maihama.

Can You Wear a Costume on Your Visit Date?

Start with the visitor's age and the date, not the event poster.

The official 2026 costume page gives special full-costume periods for guests aged 12 and over. A costume that portrays an eligible Disney character is permitted from September 15 to 30 and from October 16 to 31, subject to the costume, makeup and prop rules.

From October 1 to 15, guests aged 12 and over are asked to refrain from costumes. This middle period is easy to miss because the Halloween event continues. Buying a ticket for a Halloween event date does not by itself make that date a full-costume date.

Outside a permitted full-costume period, Tokyo Disney Resort distinguishes between a character costume and ordinary clothing influenced by a character:

• A dress, wig or manufactured outfit used to portray a specific character counts as a costume and is not permitted for guests aged 12 and over.
• Everyday clothing that uses a character's colors or general aesthetic is allowed when it remains ordinary attire rather than a character portrayal.

Children aged 11 and under follow different costume rules, including an exception related to Cast Member costumes. Families should read the official page for the child's exact outfit instead of applying the adult rule to everyone.

Disney Halloween Dates vs Full-Costume Dates

These are three different things:

Tokyo Disney Resort park tickets are date-specific and availability can change. The official ticket page says tickets are normally released daily at 2:00 p.m. for the same date two months later. Sales can pause when the daily limit is reached, and a sold-out date can return if availability changes.

Do not reserve a changing slot as though it were a park ticket, or buy a park ticket as though it included a changing slot. Treat them as two separate requirements:

1. A valid park ticket for the intended park and date.
2. A lawful dressing plan for that date, including a separate changing-space reservation if needed.

Costume Rules: Characters, Length, Makeup and Props

A correct date does not make a costume automatically acceptable.

Choose an eligible character

The official page permits costumes based on Disney characters appearing at Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea or Tokyo Disney Resort hotels; park and hotel performers; and characters in works distributed or transmitted by The Walt Disney Company, subject to the official eligible-work list.

Cast Member costumes are not permitted for guests aged 12 and over. Do not assume that a character associated with a film, game or collaboration is eligible. Use the current official list, especially for a less familiar character.

Keep the outfit safe and mobile

Avoid clothing that exposes too much skin, full-body tights worn without appropriate covering, or garments that trail on the ground or spread so widely that they interfere with other guests. The outfit needs to remain manageable in queues, restaurants, restrooms and attraction vehicles.

Attractions may require a guest to remove a prop or costume element for safety. Build the outfit so that a large layer, headpiece or accessory can be removed and carried without blocking an aisle.

Keep the face identifiable

Full-face paint, very dark or horror-style makeup, fake noses, rubber masks and other items that make the face difficult to identify are not permitted. The restriction also covers makeup that changes the face too extensively.

Makeup should be complete before arrival. Applying it in a park restroom or locker area is not an acceptable workaround.

Leave weapon-like and oversized props behind

The official restrictions include dangerous items and replicas that could be mistaken for weapons, protective equipment and certain sports or musical gear. Long poles, canes and wands that rise above waist height are also restricted.

A light-up costume may have to be switched off at a Cast Member's request. Design the look so that it still works safely without the lighting.

Tokyo Disney Resort makes the final decision based on the outfit it sees. Online opinions, old photographs and a similar costume admitted on another day are not advance clearance. Staff may refuse entry or ask a guest to leave when the rules are not met.

Where Can You Change? Hotel, Park and Ikspiari

There is no changing space inside Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea.

The official instructions also say not to change clothes or apply makeup in public facilities at the parks or nearby, including restrooms, multifunction restrooms and storage-locker areas. A park locker can hold an allowed bag; it does not become a changing room.

Option 1: Dress at the hotel

For many international visitors, the hotel is the simplest option. Confirm with the property that the outfit is acceptable in shared spaces, finish makeup in the room and travel with removable pieces packed securely.

Test the route before the day. A wide skirt, long cape, unstable footwear or oversized accessory that seems manageable in a room may become unsafe on an escalator, a crowded train or the walk from Maihama Station.

Option 2: Reserve the Ikspiari changing space

Tokyo Disney Resort plans a separate paid, reservation-required changing space at Ikspiari Cinema Area 1F, Garden Site. It is outside the parks and is scheduled for the full-costume dates: September 15–30 and October 16–31.

The announced operating hours are 8:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m., with admission until 9:30 p.m. and baggage pickup by 10:00 p.m. The official page says reservation details are expected around early August. The exact booking route, fee and availability should be rechecked when that update is published.

Do not assume that a park ticket includes the changing facility, that walk-ins will be accepted, or that a stored bag can remain after the stated pickup time.

Option 3: Wear normal clothes

Normal clothing is not a failed day. It is the cleanest Plan B when the date, reservation or outfit does not work. For October 1–15, a restrained color-inspired everyday outfit can preserve the mood without portraying a specific character.

Five-Minute Entry Checklist for International Visitors

Run this checklist before leaving the hotel:

• Date: Is today September 15–30 or October 16–31?
• Character: Does the character appear in an eligible category or on the current official list?
• Clothing: Can you walk, use stairs and sit without fabric dragging or spreading into other guests' space?
• Face: Is your face clearly identifiable without a rubber mask, fake nose, full-face paint or extreme dark makeup?

What to Do If Your Date or Costume Fails the Rules

Use a Plan B before the entrance, not after a dispute.

If your date is October 1–15

Change into ordinary clothing. A character-color combination or subtle aesthetic reference can work if it remains everyday attire and does not portray a specific character. Leave the wig, manufactured costume dress and defining character accessories at the hotel.

If the character is not eligible

Do not try to rename the costume at the gate. Remove the character-defining pieces and wear the remaining items when they form ordinary, rule-compliant clothing.

If the outfit is too long, wide or revealing

Shorten or remove the problem layer. Pack a plain top, trousers or skirt as a replacement. A small emergency sewing kit may help with a loose fastener, but the park is not the place for a large redesign.

If the makeup or prop is rejected

Be ready to remove it. Carry gentle cleansing sheets suitable for your skin, a small mirror and a soft bag for the prop. Do not wash off elaborate makeup in a park restroom if that turns the restroom into a changing area; resolve it at the hotel or designated facility.

If the Ikspiari reservation is unavailable

Dress at the hotel if the travel route is safe and the property permits it. Otherwise, use the normal-clothes option. Do not substitute a public restroom, station corner, locker area or park restroom.

Confirm the park, date and current operating information in the official Tokyo Disney Resort app or website. A costume-period date does not guarantee ticket availability, and a changing-space reservation does not grant park admission.

Weather

Late September and October can bring rain, wind and warm afternoons. Check the Japan Meteorological Agency forecast and park information before dressing. Use removable layers, avoid fabric that becomes heavy when wet and keep a normal-clothes fallback dry.
