Why Visit

A park walk, close to the station
Inokashira Park’s entrance is about five minutes from JR Kichijoji Station. Start with the pond rather than another train connection.

Several shopping streets in one visit
Sun Road’s arcade, Harmonica Yokocho’s lanes and Nakamichi-dori’s independent shops give the afternoon several different stops.

A simple rainy-day fallback
Stay near the station for indoor shopping and food at Atre, then try the covered arcade if conditions allow. Not every connection between them is sheltered.
Top 5 Spots

1
Inokashira Park
Begin with a pondside walk. The park is always open, but boats, the zoo and other paid facilities have their own schedules. The five-minute walk is to the park entrance, not every attraction.

2
Sun Road Shopping Arcade
Use this arcade as an easy first stop on the north side. Browse ordinary shops and food counters; opening times vary by business. Its roof makes it useful for a shorter wet-weather outing.

3
Harmonica Yokocho
Explore the compact lanes for small restaurants and shops. Treat a daytime browse and an evening meal as different options: an individual business may not be open when you pass.

4
Nakamichi-dori
Follow the shopping street for smaller stores and cafe stops. This is the browsing part of the course: choose a few places that interest you, instead of trying to cover every shop.

5
Inokashira Park Zoo
An optional longer stop, with a main zoo and an aquatic-life area covered by one ticket. Normally closed Mondays; holiday exceptions apply. Enter both areas before 16:00 if you want to see both.
Local Food: 6 Stops

Satou: round menchi-katsu
The ground-floor takeaway counter is at 1-1-8 Kichijoji Honcho. Menchi sales start at 10:30; shop hours are 10:00–19:30, ending earlier if sold out. This is separate from the upstairs steak restaurant.

Iseya Koen: grilled skewers
A lunch option beside the park approach at 1-15-8 Kichijoji Minamicho. Listed hours are 12:00–22:00 (last orders 21:00), closed Mondays. Check the current menu and opening notice before visiting.

Ozasa: monaka sweets
Choose monaka with red-bean or white-bean filling at 1-1-8 Kichijoji Honcho. The shop lists 10:00–19:30. Check the current price at the counter.

Woodberry’s: frozen yogurt
At 1-4-1 Kichijoji Minamicho, the main shop lists 11:00–20:00 with irregular closing days. Fruit choices change seasonally; some flavors add ¥50. Check which flavor is available rather than expecting the illustration.

Tanaka-tei: cake & tea
A seated cafe stop at 2-13-4 Kichijoji Honcho, convenient for a Nakamichi-dori afternoon. Choose from the day’s cake selection and check the cafe menu for prices.

Steak House Satou: a full meal
Above the takeaway shop at 1-1-8 Kichijoji Honcho, 2F. Lunch is 11:00–14:30 last orders; the beef cut varies. Access is via stairs, and the operator asks visitors not to bring strollers into the small dining room.
Suggested Half-day Course
Suggested times, not measured walking times or bookings. The core course leaves out the zoo and Ghibli Museum. Adjust for weather, closures, queues and your pace.
-
South / Park Exit → Inokashira Park
Walk to the entrance, then spend the morning around the pond. Keep the zoo for a separate longer visit or replace part of the afternoon with it.
-
Lunch at Iseya Koen
Return toward the park approach for lunch. On Mondays, choose food at Atre instead; individual opening times vary. Skewers alone are a snack, so order enough for the meal you want.
-
Cross to the North Exit → Sun Road
Browse the arcade. If you want a takeaway, Satou and Ozasa are nearby choices; queues and sell-outs may change the schedule.
-
A short look through Harmonica Yokocho
Take a short look through the lanes without making an open restaurant a requirement. Leave space for people passing.
-
Nakamichi-dori browsing
Continue west for smaller shops. Choose a few stops rather than a timed shopping checklist.
-
Tea at Tanaka-tei → back to the station
Finish with a seated pause if there is space. Allow extra time if the cafe is busy, then return to Kichijoji Station.
Getting Here & Area Map
Arrive at Kichijoji on the JR Chuo / Sobu or Keio Inokashira lines. Follow the South / Park Exit for the park, or the North Exit for Sun Road and the north-side shopping streets. The map below is centered on the station; each card opens its own place search.
Before You Go
Is this a Ghibli Museum itinerary?
No museum visit is included in this course. Ghibli Museum admission requires advance booking; tickets are not sold at the museum. Build a separate plan around a confirmed ticket time.
What should I change in the rain?
Shorten or skip the park. Atre is the indoor alternative near the station; ordinary shop hours are 10:00–21:00, with different hours for some businesses. The Sun Road roof does not cover the whole route.
Which closure checks matter?
The zoo normally closes Mondays, with holiday exceptions. Iseya Koen lists Monday closure; Ozasa closes Tuesdays. Confirm operators’ latest notices, including temporary closures, before setting off.
Do I need cash or step-free checks?
Satou’s takeaway counter accepts cash only. The upstairs Steak House Satou has stair access and a stroller restriction. Check each venue directly for mobility needs; this route has not been tested for step-free access.
Are the prices guaranteed for my visit?
Prices and hours are operator listings checked on 11 October 2026, not a guarantee of stock or future pricing. Check the current menu and opening notices before visiting.
