Compare two sides of the sweet district

Historic cake shop, modern patisserie, bean gifts

Mont-Blanc’s long Jiyugaoka history and Mont St. Clair’s small cakes give different reasons to browse. Feve adds packaged bean and nut sweets for later. Choose one sweet to eat now and consider takeaway rather than planning several cafe desserts in succession.

Use the greenway to slow the pace

Small streets and tree-lined pauses

The Kuhombutsugawa Greenway connects the area around Jiyugaoka with the direction of Kuhombutsu. It provides a calmer walking line between shopping stops. The route still crosses ordinary streets; it is not a single enclosed pedestrian park.

Start with the temple, not the queue

Kuhombutsu before the 16:30 gate closure

The temple’s approach is an easy reason to leave the busiest station streets. Going there first removes the risk of arriving after its gates close. Shrine and temple visits should remain quiet; shops and tea rooms can fill the later part of the day.

1

Jiyugaoka Kumano Shrine

Daytime neighborhood stop; gate hours unverified

Make a short, quiet detour north of the station among the shopping and residential lanes. The venue-confirmed introduction describes it as the local guardian shrine for Jiyugaoka and Midorigaoka. Leave space for worshippers and follow the current signs; the guide does not establish regular gate or shrine-office hours.

2

Kuhombutsu Joshin-ji Temple

Gates 06:00–16:30; office hours are shorter

Walk west from Jiyugaoka or arrive via Kuhombutsu Station for the leafy approach and temple grounds. The temple gives roughly fifteen minutes from Jiyugaoka Station and five from Kuhombutsu. Gates close at 16:30; goshuin reception is approximately 09:30–16:00 and may briefly pause. Respect any maintenance or worship restrictions.

Kuhombutsugawa Greenway & South Exit lanes

Outdoor walking line; shops have separate hours

Use the greenway as a connection between the quieter west side and station shopping. Tokyu’s report explains that it follows the covered-over river. Choose a short section, pause at an available bench and watch for crossings; cherry blossom or autumn-color conditions depend on the day.

4

La Vita courtyard

Small commercial courtyard, not a full district

The shopping association describes an Italian-inspired space with brick buildings, a small canal and bridge. Treat it as a brief architectural stop, not a large Venice-style sightseeing zone or a gondola ride. It is commercial property: respect the shops and ask before photographing interiors or people.

Jiyugaoka Muse Square

Beside the Front Exit; tenant hours vary

Use the current station-front complex as a practical finish for shopping or an indoor break. The operator gives the address as 1-29-1 and the Front Exit as the approach. Mont-Blanc’s main shop is now on the first floor here. Check each tenant’s opening and seating rather than using the complex’s headline hours for every shop.

Tokyo Jiyugaoka Mont-Blanc, main shop

Muse Square 1F; check latest hours notice

The operator traces its Jiyugaoka story to 1933 and confirms the main shop’s September 2026 move into Muse Square. Choose a Mont Blanc from the day’s available cakes. Use the new 1-29-1 location, not an old temporary-shop address; an hours-change notice was posted after opening, so check the latest notice and counter price.

Mont St. Clair

Small cakes in the residential-side streets

Walk beyond the station core to the patisserie at 2-22-4. Choose one of the available petits gateaux rather than assuming an online whole cake is sold by the slice. The operator publishes closure notices and separate salon last-order information; check both before counting on a seated stop.

Kosoan: tea in an old house

Matcha or a sweet break; verify the day’s opening

Tokyu’s October 2026 report describes a 1954 tea room that became a tea cafe and gallery in 1999, opposite La Vita. Choose matcha or an available sweet for a slower pause. The report gives Wednesday and first/third Thursday closures; confirm directly before a special trip. The operator’s HTTPS site could not be retrieved in this check.

ZEN ROOM, Jiyugaoka

Weekday lunch 11:30–14:30; last order 14:00

The operator says ZEN ROOM began in Jiyugaoka in 2012. Choose kensaimen, its configurable noodle meal, for a savory lunch between sweet-shop stops. Weekend/holiday lunch runs to 15:00, last order 14:30. Ask about the soup and toppings for dietary needs; this guide makes no medicinal or beauty-effect claim.

Kageyamarou, Jiyugaoka shop

Lunch sessions 11:00–12:45 and 13:00–15:00

Choose a Chinese meal when you want a longer seated lunch on the north side. The local association’s shop introduction includes dim sum, while the operator lists this exact branch and its two lunch sessions. Ask what is included in today’s menu and confirm a seat; do not assume another branch’s ramen, awards or prices apply here.

Feve, Jiyugaoka original shop

10:00–19:00 in the operator listing

The current original shop is on the south side in Okusawa, not at an old north-side address. Pick a small bean or nut confection package to take home rather than adding another cream cake. Read that item’s ingredient and storage label, and use the counter price rather than an online gift-set total.

Suggested Half-day Course

Suggested 10:00–15:00 temple-to-shopping route; times are editorial allowances, not measured walks or reservations. Choose ZEN ROOM or a confirmed Kageyamarou session for the main lunch, not both. A tea break and one takeaway sweet are enough. On a tea-room closing day substitute another confirmed-open cafe without delaying the temple until after 16:30.

Getting Here & Area Map

Arrive on the Tokyu Toyoko or Oimachi Line. The Front Exit faces the station-side shopping core and Muse Square; the South Exit is useful for the greenway. Kuhombutsu Joshin-ji is west in Setagaya City, about fifteen minutes on foot according to the temple, or about five minutes from Oimachi Line Kuhombutsu Station. Plan your finish before choosing a train back.

Open in Google Maps ↗

Before You Go

Can I start from Kuhombutsu Station?

Yes. The temple gives about five minutes from Kuhombutsu Station on the Oimachi Line, versus about fifteen from Jiyugaoka. You can start there and finish at Jiyugaoka to avoid repeating the west-side approach. Check current train stopping patterns.

Source 1 · Source 2
What if the tea room is closed or it rains?

Do not build the whole day around one cafe. Kosoan has a published closure pattern; Muse Square offers a separate indoor shopping alternative with tenant-specific hours. Shorten the greenway in rain, and keep any temple visit before the 16:30 gate closure.

Which addresses changed?

Mont-Blanc’s main shop is now in Muse Square at Jiyugaoka 1-29-1. Feve’s current original shop is in Okusawa 5-27-11. Use the branch-specific map links below each card instead of an old saved pin, and recheck the operator before a special trip.
